The recently renovated DoubleTree by Hilton Portland is an outstanding facility for Westercon 69. With 15 floors of residential space, meeting areas, and exhibit space, our hotel provides all the room we could want with some of the best views in the city from the upper floors. One hotel, one facility, under one roof. Movable air walls transform daytime meeting spaces into large ballrooms for evening dances, costuming competitions, concerts, and ceremonies. A separate exhibit space on the hotel grounds offers plenty of room for art show galleries and dealers. A perfect facility for all of Westercon's programming.
What is the difference between "standard" rooms and "premium" rooms?
There are two wings to the hotel, built decades apart. The standard rooms in the older wing are smaller, and can only comfortably fit a single queen bed. (Take my word for this - during the first OryCon there in 1979, when these rooms were the only ones there, we tried to fit three people in the room and the person in the sleeping bag on the floor was constantly getting stepped on.) The premium rooms, in the newer wing, are much larger. Each room contains either two queen beds, or one king bed plus a sleeper sofa. For $10 more a night, it's easy to fit in two more people. There are separate elevator banks for the two wings, but they interconnect on each floor. Because of the larger size of the premium rooms, the party rooms will all be in the premium rooms.
Hotel Dining and DrinksA coffee shop, restaurant, and lounge. Visit our About Portland page for more local restaurant suggestions.
Other Hotel Amenities
Outdoor swimming pool, complimentary newspapers in lobby, 24-Hour front desk support, laundry facilities and laundry & dry cleaning services, on site security, full room service (limited hours), luggage storage, ATM and banking services.
Transportation to the HotelsBoth the Doubletree Portland and the Inn at the Convention Center are located directly on the Max Line, Portland’s light rail system, providing public transit access to the airport, the train/bus station, and many local attractions. Public transit in Portland is provided by TriMet . Train schedules from the Portland International Airport (Red Line) and Union Station (Green Line) are available on the TriMet website. Visit our About Portland page for some travel suggestions while visiting Portland.
MAX Transportation from Portland International Airport: The MAX light rail Red Line serves Portland International Airport, and runs right by the hotel. The airport station is on the south side of the baggage claim level (near baggage carousel #1). Buy your ticket from the machines before entering the train-the current fare is $2.50. The train runs on an honor system (no turnstiles), but keep the ticket with you in case a fare inspector asks to see it. The trip takes approximately 20-25 minutes, and the train runs every 30 minutes (every 15 minutes during peak time) from 4:58AM to 11:58PM. Get off at the Lloyd Center/NE 11th Ave station and the hotel is across the street.
Driving Directions for Portland International Airport: ~11 miles, 15 minute drive. Merge on I-205 South. Take the I-84 West exit toward Portland City Center. Take Exit 1, Lloyd Center. Turn right at the second signal (11th Ave). The Hotel is one block North on the left.
$5 per day both for members staying overnight or just for the day. The difference between parking attached to your room and the parking voucher is that your room key gives you in and out privileges. The day parker pays every time they leave, and also needs a new coupon.
How to get $5 parking at the Westercon 69 hotel parking garage:
1. Park in the hotel parking garage.
2. Go to the Westercon Information Desk in the main lobby.
3. Show your con badge and get a parking voucher.
4. Pay $5 for your parking at one of the kiosks in the hotel. There's one in each lobby. You'll get a parking receipt.
5. Use the parking receipt to exit the parking garage.
No in-out privileges. Pay each time you park. No overnight parking with vouchers. Vouchers distributed one at a time. No bulk acquisitions.
The Doubletree has access spots covering the vast majority of its floor plan. If you pay for premium internet, or are using your free internet due to having a room, you should be able to use wifi in most of the function space.
Outside food is not permitted in the function space of the hotel. This includes all hotel spaces which aren't sleeping rooms. Visit the Westercon Hospitality Room for a quick snack between events. There is a coffee shop and two restaurants in the hotel as well.
Check out the Party Policies
. The Doubletree's online reservation system doesn't have the ability for us to request "Party" or "Non-Party" rooms, and blocking party rooms must be done manually. If you wish to be placed on the party floor: once you make your reservation, contact the party liaison at email@example.com
to request a party room, and we will pass your request on to our rep at the hotel. All party rooms will be in premium rooms on the 15th floor. Just like the old days, all party rooms are private rooms. This means that there are no corkage charges for bringing in food or drink for your parties; however extra cleaning charges may apply.
The usual requests apply. If you still want to stay at the Doubletree, make a reservation at an overflow hotel and then email firstname.lastname@example.org
to be placed on a waiting list. If for whatever reason you need to cancel a reservation at the Doubletree, please contact email@example.com
. We'll assign your room to someone on the waiting list.
